Do you have a goal that will take money to achieve it? Maybe it’s that vacation that you have been wanting to take for a few years now, or maybe it’s a new car, or to expand your business or go back to school? Perhaps you are just trying to get by and wonder how you will be able to pay for that upcoming expense.  Whatever it is you know it will take money and at the moment you may not know how you will ever be able to afford it.

A couple of friends introduced me to the 52 week money challenge that also inspired me to do other things to save money.  For those who aren’t familiar with the 52 week money challenge, it is where you start the first week of Jan and each week you add whatever the week number is to the jar. For example the first week of January would be $1, then on the second week, you would add $2, then on the third week, you would add $3 and so on. By the end of the 52 weeks you would have saved $1, 378. Some people will start from the last week and move down. And, it’s never too late to start. Better late than never.

Some people collect change. They never spend change and so at the end of the day, they will put all the change in a jar.

Another way to save some money is to agree to give up something and however much it cost, it would go into the savings. For example, perhaps for every Starbucks coffee you skip, you put that money in the savings. That few dollars adds up and may surprise you how much you spend on an item that has no real value.

Are there things in your home or garage that you no longer need or want? Maybe it’s worth something. Try selling it at a garage sale, on ebay, craigslist or a pawn shop.

There are coupons nowadays for just about everything. Use them for things you really need and the amount that you save put in the savings jar. Perhaps you and your friends can exchange coupons for ones you really can use.

Before you start your savings project, go find a shoebox or another box or if you are collecting change, a very pretty jar to hold the coins. Have a red envelope (or color one if you can’t find one) and put three coins in there, preferably the kind that are used for feng shui by the Asians. Put that in the bottom of the container. Write out your intention/goal and an affirmation that resonates with you. As you put the envelope with the coins in the box, say aloud the intention/goal and affirmation three times. Put it in your prosperity corner of your home. Then every time you put money in the box or glass container, bless the money and express gratitude knowing that whatever you are saving the money for will manifest.

It’s not too late to start saving.
